The next one is on Sunday 21 February. It's a late lunchtime gig at the wonderful Duck and Drake in Leeds. We've always had a great time here - come and join us!

Our gig at the Blues Bar in Harrogate was the first live try-out of the regular new line-up of the band, with Dave on lead guitar. It was really good - the whole band's chemistry changes with the arrival of one new player!

OK - so it's a bit late - Wally's computer got left out in the snow (not). We enjoyed ourselves at Kebs on New Year's Eve, with a bumper bunch of three guitarists. It was Dave's debut, and he played a belter - looking forward to more!

Thanks to Jude and George for booking the Zeds for their joint 60th birthday party, up at the Mount Skip Golf Club. It was a cold, clear night with fireworks, food and festive flying lanterns, not to mention a top show from us lot.
It was also Ian's last gig with the band - we've loved playing with him, and wish him the very best for his next musical venture (who knows - perhaps he'll dep for us from time to time....)

Well - Cue Gardens was an interesting place - snooker rooms, pool rooms, function room, restaurant, and a bar where the Zeds played last night. After a slow start things got going, and we all had a good time (I think).

For those of you who don't know yet, Ian's leaving the band soon - so if you want to catch some of his personal guitar pyrotechnics, come and see us soon!

Our new lead guitarist is Dave, and we're really looking forward to opening another chapter with him - watch this space!

We had a really good night at Cookies, Halifax on 14 November - the bar was full and everybody seemed to be having a great time moving and grooving to our top tunes. Wally says special thanks to Graham for coming all the way from Amsterdam for some super-skanking!

The gig last Saturday at the Sportsman's at Kebs was the first one for a long time when Stewart hasn't played. It all went really well, though, with Tiny playing beautifully.

We played last Saturday night at the Duck and Drake in Leeds - it closed for a few weeks and now it's back with a vengeance! The pub filled up after 9 and we had a fantastic time - a really good reception, despite other bands playing in the city centre and the Leeds Festival a few miles away. Power to the Duck!

We had a really good night again at the Hole in t'Wall, Hebden Bridge on 22 August. Justin has done a fantastic job in making the venue a really fun and friendly place to be. There was a lot of smiling and dancing, and we're looking forward to playing there again in in few months' time!

We played two gigs this stormy weekend - one was a family fun day at the Church Inn, Uppermill. It's Mick, our trombone player's home territory and lots of his old friends turned out and braved the rain to watch us along with lots of families! On Sunday we played at the great Blues Cafe Bar in Harrogate, shortlisted as one of the best small live music venues in the country. Thanks to everyone there for their enthusiasm and support - we're already looking forward to our next visit.

We travelled down to Buckinghamshire for a triple birthday party at Richard and Rachel's lovely house. It rained, but the skank was transcendent. The van, driven heroically home by Stewart, arrived back in Hebden at 4.30am - rock'n'roll!

The Zeds' 25th anniversary party, at the Trades Club, Hebden Bridge and part of the 2009 Hebden Bridge Arts Festival, was just great!. The sold-out gig featured three sets performed by several different lineups, each containing original band members Jim Gault and Steve Grey, accompanied by a selection of the twenty or so past and current members of the band who made it to the event. We went all the way to Anglesey to play at the North Wales Scooter Rally - we were onstage at 8 though, when it was still warm and sunny outside. Consequently the crowd was small..... Oh well, maybe next year, maybe later?

zeds solve puzzle

It was nearly the solstice - in the end we played inside at the wonderful Puzzle Hall Inn, because the weather was a bit threatening earlier in the day. We had a terrific gig - the onstage sound was excellent thanks to Martin from Backfeed Studios, and we played like maniacs. All the Zeds are looking forward to the next time at the Puzzle - it's one of the best set up pubs for music in our area.

It took us a while to win everyone in the mostly old-school ska audience over to our rockier variety, but in the end this was a good gig for us. However, we managed to leave behind several important pieces of equipment, which haven't as yet turned up....

25th Anniversary Tickets Selling Fast!!!

Tickets for the Zeds 25th Birthday on 4th July at Hebden Bridge Trades Club are reported to be selling quickly even though they're only available by post at present. To order one, you have to use the pull-out form in the centre of the Arts Festival programme which is available at shops and cafes throughout the area or from the festival shop in Market St. As there are about 40 ex zeds who may turn up to play, it will not be feasible to operate a guest list, so if you are coming or know anyone who will want to come, make sure you get your tickets now.

Just a note to say what an excellent time we had again at the Hark to Towler in Tottington, top gig, top venue, nice to play somewhere kitted out for bands. Some genuine moonstomping going on. We are hoping the landlord will come to our 25th Birthday Party on the 4th of July at the Trades Club in Hebden!

We've done two great gigs this weekend - the first was a family event for Jim - a celebration of Molly's marriage in Heptonstall, and the second was a party up at Hag Dyke, above Kettlewell. It's nearly 1600 feet above sea level, and is believed to be the highest habitable building in the former West Riding of Yorkshire. Anyway, it was a wonderful evening - thanks to Andy and Fay for organising it, and to everyone else, for arranging electricity,food, drink and bed, and for getting us and all the gear up there and back down again. We were made to feel very welcome and loved it when everyone in the room was dancing. Ska!

We enjoyed our gig on Saturday at Cookies Bar in Halifax - had to face a sound level detector required by Environmental Health. If you play too loud it switches off the mains supply! We set it off twice early on but managed after that - a good skanking all round in the end.

This year is our 25th anniversary, we are celebrating with a special gig at the Trades Club during the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival on Sat 4th July more info to follow. Excluding the 8 existing Zeds we think there are another 28 Zeds owt there.....

we filled the hole in the wall

We had a top gig at the beautifully refurbished Hole in't Wall, Hebden Bridge, last night. There was a party going on upstairs, where The Travelling Band were playing, but the downstairs area was filled with us and a big bunch of bopping Zeds fans, old and new (but no Fay and Paul - hope you're both OK!) Look out for us here again in the autumn!
